The Pros can answer your questions!

What’s the difference between assisted and independent living?

Independent living communities typically cater to seniors who are highly social and independent, who live alone or as couples, without the need for personal care support or skilled nursing. Assisted living communities cater to seniors who are physically or cognitively unable to live on their own.

What activities are available for residents?

Most Independent Living Communities have varied activities ranging in arts and crafts, wine tastings, live musical entertainment, visits to local attractions and events, tours, shopping and dining outings, outdoor activities, and more. Social activities and entertainment keep residents’ minds and bodies active and boost wellness.

What amenities are available for residents?

Many Independent Living Communities have amenities such as recreational facilities and fitness centers; entertainment and social programs; outdoor spaces with walking paths and gardens; restaurant-style dining; and scheduled transportation. Some also have additional amenities unique to their communities, such as an on-site beauty/barber shop and postal centers.

Are residents allowed to bring their own furniture and belongings?

Absolutely! In most cases. Independent living residents are encouraged to furnish and decorate their apartments to reflect their style and desired level of comfort.

How much does independent living cost?

In general, the monthly cost of independent living can range from $1,800 to $5,000 a month. The wide range exists because of factors such as location and the number and type of services and amenities offered. Compared to the costs of home-ownership – which include insurance, taxes, property maintenance and improvements, utilities, groceries, and possibly housekeeping – an independent living community is often more affordable than most think.

Does Medicare help cover the costs associated with Senior Independent living communities?

Unfortunately, Medicare does not help cover assisted living expenses. All senior Independent living communities are private pay only. But the Pros can assist you in finding the right place for your budget!

What is the affordability of an Independent Living Community?

Typically, costs are paid by individual resident’s retirement savings, but some may find assistance with long-term care insurance or veterans benefits. Many residents pay for senior living by selling or renting out their homes, supplementing their Social Security benefits and/or cashing out investments and/or cashing out investments or even accept assistance from contributing adult children.
